Ryan McAleavey, "Coach Mac," has a wealth of coaching experience going back 20+ years. He has coached for competitive U-14 teams as well as both the high school and collegiate levels. He is the head coach at Newsome High School and a lead coach for the FLC Tampa Bayhawks.
Recently, McAleavey was the assistant coach for Coach Chris Burdick and was integral in developing the men's lacrosse program at Webber International University. Before Webber, McAleavey served as the first head coach of the men's lacrosse program at Florida Tech. During his eight seasons with the Florida Tech Panthers, McAleavey finished with a career record of 46-53 at Florida Tech, was named the 2013 Deep South Conference Coach of the Year, and guided the Panthers to three SSC Tournament appearances. Additionally, he coached three All-Americans and had 15 first-team all-conference players, 12 second-team all-conference players, three all-conference honorable mention players, and nine all-freshman team players. During 2018, his final season with the Panthers, Coach Mac led the team 9-6 overall and 6-1 in SSC play while ranking as high as No. 9 in the nation in the Nike/US Lacrosse Poll and No. 13 in the USILA Coaches Poll. The Panthers became the first team in SSC men's lacrosse history to reach six conference wins. Two of Coach Mac's key players, Addison Abramson and Grant Hughes, became the first student-athletes in program history to be named All-Americans. Abramson was a USILA/Nike Third Team All-American, while Hughes earned honorable mention honors. Hughes then became the first Panther to be selected in the MLL Draft, taken in the 10th round with the 82nd pick by the Florida Launch.
Coach Mac is no stranger to developing teams into champions. Suffolk Community College, St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel, New Jersey, and Notre Dame Catholic High School in Fairfield, Connecticut, are all part of his winning accomplishments.
McAleavey was a standout attackman at Dowling College, pacing the team in goals all four years. Following a junior campaign where he scored 60 goals and dished out 15 assists, he garnered the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association
(USILA) Division II All-America Honorable Mention honors. McAleavey still holds school records for goals and points in a single season and career.
Following his collegiate career, McAleavey inked a free-agent contract with the New Jersey Pride. Shortly after signing, he joined the coaching staff as an assistant. With one season of coaching experience under his belt, he still strongly desired to play. The New Jersey Pride selected him in the ninth round of the 2004 Major League Lacrosse Supplemental Draft.
McAleavey received a Bachelor of Arts degree in professional and liberal studies from Dowling College in 1999. Before earning a master's degree in special education and general education at Touro College, he occupied the graduate assistant men's lacrosse position at Dowling.
"I coach to give back to the game that has given me so much. My greatest joy is seeing the the young men I have worked with through the years grow both on and off of the field," Coach Mac.
We're excited to have him as part of the Florida Boys program!
Coach TJ Fitzsimons is a trailblazer in our lacrosse community. Coach Fitzsimons played high school lacrosse in Wesley Chapel for the Warriors club program, the Tampa Tribe. He was a 2-year captain and led the team to three club championships. Coach Fitzsimons was voted “Attack of the Year” for WFLL.
From 2009 - 2011, Coach Fitzsimons went to college and played at SUNY Maritime, a DIII school in Bronx, NY. He then transferred to Lenoir Rhyne, a DII school in North Carolina. A fall ball injury ended his chance of making the roster. Coach Fitzsimons headed home to finish his collegiate career. He started coaching in 2013, leading the WC Warriors club team to an undefeated championship season. Then, in 2014, the Warriors club team was split into three respective school programs. Coach Fitzsimons became the first head coach of his Alma Mater, Wiregrass Ranch High School. Coach Fitzsimons has proudly led his team to over 50 wins in just seven seasons as head coach.
Coach Fitzsimons is also a coach to competitive travel club teams. For the past seven years, he has coached high school travel ball for Tampa Tribe, Pasco Lions, True Monsters, True Tampa, and True Florida State, as well as various travel teams for U10s, U12s, and U14s. Currently, he is coaching the U14s for FLC Bayhawks and FLC State.

Our championship-winning coach alliance continues to grow. We are pleased to announce our newest Premier Coaching member, Sam Collingwood. Sam is a recent graduate from the University of Tampa. He was not only a 4-year starter and leader on the field but also a significant contributor to the Spartan's undefeated 2022 championship making his team the first Sunshine State Conference school to win a men's lacrosse crown. Sam's specialty is the ground ball and the forced turnover.
Sam is currently coaching with the Florida Lacrosse Club in both the Brandon Flyers and the Tampa Bayhawks.
"Coachig has provided me with an opportunity to give back to the sport that has given me so much in terms of friends, education, and personal development. I enjoy watching my players progress, and it brings me a sense of satisfaction to help others better themselves on and off the lacrosse field. Lacrosse is a great sport. I love playing it and want to inspire others to have the same passion I did throughout high school and college," Coach Collinwood.
Project 813 Lax is excited to have Bryan Wright as one of our Premier Coaching team members. Bryan is a recent graduate from D2 National Champion University of Tampa, where he was a 4-year starter and leader on the field.
Bryan was selected for the SSC All-Championship team, captain two years in a row, and a pre-season All-American. His record holds 113 career goals, 45 assists, and 122 ground balls. He was ranked 27th nationally in man-up goals, 8th in the SSC in goals per game, and 3rd in all-time career points for UT.
Bryan currently coaches for competitive travel teams such as STS, Tampa Palms, and the Florida Lacrosse Club. He is also a highly sought-after private coach for lacrosse players working toward playing at the next level.
“Coaching is one of the most rewarding occupations,” said Wright. “When you can say that you positively impacted your student-athletes lives, it is all worth it when you see the kids develop and grow into young men. I hope to not only teach them lacrosse but valuable life lessons,” Coach Wright.

Meet our newest Premier Coach alliance, Ryan Vella!
Ryan started his collegiate career at Onondaga Community College, where they went undefeated two years in a row, won two National Championships, and achieved 1st Team All-American status. From there, he was recruited to play at the University of Tampa for his junior and senior years. As a Spartan, Ryan led the charge as defense and LSM. He completed his senior year as a Spartan with the number two spot for defense with 16 caused turnovers and 19 groundballs. Today, Ryan is not only a leader and coach for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) but also a highly sought-after specialist for speed, agility, and strength training for lacrosse camps and a private coach.
"The evangelist Billy Graham once said, 'A coach will impact more young people in a year than the average person does in a lifetime.' That holds true in my life as well. I coach because of certain coaches' incredible impact on my life growing up. Those experiences shaped the man I am today, and I am forever grateful for them. My goal is to give back in the same way for this next generation; to give them my best and lead them to be great players and members of society, for the glory of God."
